We’ll be sending invites out by email and will be asking you to RSVP very soon.

Ongoing Uncertainty https://daveandsusanne.com/ongoing-uncertainty/ Sun, 04 Jul 2021 10:37:31 +0000 https://daveandsusanne.com/?p=45 As you know we hoped to be able to reschedule our 2020 wedding and reception to October 23rd 2021. With things starting to reopen we have caught up with the reception venue (Signet Library) and although they are now hosting events they are advising everyone to plan as though things will be as per the current restrictions: socially distanced, house-hold bubbles on a table, no mingling with other guests, and no music or dancing is permitted. Although October is still a few months away (and we’re all crossing our fingers permanently these days), if these restrictions were still in place this is not the kind of party we would want to throw, and we certainly couldn’t ask our guests to travel such a long distance for such a restricted event.

Covid restrictions are due to be lifted within the next few weeks, but at the same time, case numbers in the UK are continuing to rise rapidly (although thankfully cases of serious illness, and worse, remain much lower than before). However, October is the start of colder weather, and schools would have returned after the summer break, so it’s imaginable that the Covid situation around the time of our reception could mean that restrictions lifted in the summer are re-introduced. What can we say – we’re risk-averse realists…

With all of this in mind, our plans are to go ahead with the actual registry-office wedding this coming October, because we have no firm reason not to, though this is planned to be a small family only event on the Friday. As for the reception we are going to continue as if it is still happening in October but as the venue has agreed to let us make a decision in mid-August we will keep the planning to a minimum. If we are not confident that we can safely hold the party that we want to host (there MUST be dancing) then we will once again postpone to (possibly) May 2022.

We know this makes it difficult to make travel plans, child-sitting plans, accommodation plans, etc., so the best we can do is to try and keep you informed, which hopefully this does. We are open to any comments or questions from you though. If you don’t feel like you would be comfortable attending a party at the end of October, or just can’t, then please let us know – we want as many people to come as possible so it will really help us make our decision. Don’t worry about upsetting us – we’re honestly remarkably casual about the whole thing. When it comes down to it we want to throw a big party in our favourite place with our favourite people – it needs all three of those elements.

Save The Date… again https://daveandsusanne.com/save-the-date/ Mon, 14 Dec 2020 14:45:37 +0000 https://daveandsusanne.com/?p=38 When we sent out our original Save The Date slips last Christmas, we had no idea what 2020 was going to have in store for the world. Let’s hope that 2021 is a big improvement.

We have rebooked our accommodation, and we have rescheduled our small, family ceremony to a Friday afternoon as per our original plans. We have also re-booked our Royal Mile venue in Edinburgh for celebrating, eating, drinking and dancing. Fingers crossed, the new date will be Saturday, October 23rd, 2021.

We will share more details as the year progresses and as we have a better idea of how likely the event is to go ahead.

Online Non-Wedding Party https://daveandsusanne.com/online-non-wedding-party/ Sun, 18 Oct 2020 10:33:32 +0000 https://daveandsusanne.com/?p=32 This coming Friday/Saturday are the dates when, in a non-COVID world, we would have been getting married. For some couples the passing of this missed wedding date would be a tough time, but the two of us are absolutely fine with it. Honest! There are many people who have found the last 7 months much harder than we have, and we know that at some point in the future we’ll be able to get together again and celebrate with our friends.

That said, we couldn’t let the date pass unmarked. Susanne had the idea of getting a playlist of great wedding party tunes together and playing them out on the internet on the night of the not-happening-party. As that’s happening, we’ll open up Zoom and invite our guests to pop in and say “hi”.

How to join in

The online party starts at 7:30pm on Saturday October 24th. You can listen (and watch me pressing play) on Twitch at https://twitch.tv/dfluff76

If you’d prefer to listen without the video you can use the embedded player at https://stream.daveandsusanne.com/ , or you can post the following address in to a media player of your choice (the TuneIn app on mobile lets you do this) which will mean you can listen on your device whilst doing something else: http://stream.daveandsusanne.com:8963/stream.mp3

Finally, whilst the party is on, there’ll be a Zoom call running where you can pop in and say hi. For obvious reasons we’ll not post those details here, but we’ll send them to you closer to the time. If you’ve not received the meeting ID and you’d like to be part of it then message us on WhatsApp.

Postponement https://daveandsusanne.com/postponement/ Sat, 27 Jun 2020 14:54:50 +0000 https://daveandsusanne.com/?p=29 It probably won’t come as much of a surprise that we have decided to postpone the wedding. October both feels like too far away to know what the travel/socialising situation will be like & too close to not make a decision.

We’re obviously disappointed but as we really wanted to have a big, fun party, the chance that we’d all still be keeping a respectful distance from each other by October makes postponing feel like the sensible option. And we’re nothing if not sensible.

At the moment it looks like we’ll simply be pushing things back by a year to the same weekend in October 2021. We really loved the venue we chose & Edinburgh is still our favourite place so we’re only shifting the date, nothing else is changing.

We look forward to celebrating with you next year.

Save The Date https://daveandsusanne.com/save-the-date-original/ Sun, 01 Dec 2019 20:52:14 +0000 https://daveandsusanne.com/?p=21 Things are getting booked, deposits have been paid, which means we have a date locked down.

Unsurprisingly the plan is EDINBURGH.

We’ll be getting married in a small family ceremony on a Friday afternoon.

We’ll then be inviting friends to join us in celebrating, eating, dancing in a venue on The Royal Mile on Saturday, October 24th, 2020.

There will, of course, be more details to follow. For now hopefully this is enough to help with planning travel and accommodation.

Proposal https://daveandsusanne.com/proposal/ Mon, 19 Aug 2019 20:46:25 +0000 https://daveandsusanne.com/?p=13 On Monday August 12th, 2019, I finally proposed to Susanne, in front of the Totem Pole in the Pleasance Courtyard at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

That was the easy bit.

As we sat down and started working out what we did and didn’t want for our wedding, I decided to distract myself by buying a domain name where we could post any important details for whatever wedding event(s) we ended up having. After an amusing half-hour of browsing hover.com and deciding that “daveandsusanne.lol” wasn’t a suitable domain, I purchased daveandsusanne.com, and here we are.
